Everything is Bigger in NYC

That is the one thing I kept noticing as Dave and I toured NYC yesterday. They do not do anything small there.

Boxingday (December 26th every year) is the 13th anniversary of the day we met. We decided to take the day and go to NY. We took the train from Media to 30th Street to Trenton via Septa and then to New York's Penn Station via NJ Transit. More than one person suggested we try Megabus or Bolt but I think we were too late for them because the price was not any better. I will keep that in mind for another trip sometime and book earlier.

We arrived at Penn Station around 11:30 ish. I wondered why it looked familiar and then remember that my former co-worker, Molly, came through here on our way to Lake Placid, NY for a conference a few years ago. We had a layover in the station. Both Dave and I were hungry so our first stop was at Andrews Coffee Shop for lunch.

We both ordered pastrami on rye. It seemed like the NY kind of thing to do. We shared an order of onion rings too. Our bellies full we continued our walk down 7th Avenue toward Times Square.

Even before we reached times square I was amazed at how BIG everything is. The billboards, the buildings ...everything. This one caught my eye. If can't read it, it says "Times Square's only
100% Solar Powered Billboard".

And boy was NY crowded. Many people had this day off from work and combined with it being a huge shopping day everywhere we went was so crowded. We stopped into Macy's just to say we were there and left after only a few minutes. I've never seen such madness! Here are a few highlights of our trip told in pictures. We took a lot more and you can see them here if you like. I do not like adding photos to this blog. It is a tedious and finicky process.

"Oooohh, Dinana would like that Santa"
"Um but not at that price"
We couldn't read the tag clearly but it definitely had
4 digits after the $ and there was no decimal point!!

Skating at Rockefeller Center. Look at all the people watching!
It was like that all the way around the rink. Amazing!

A replica of the star above the tree. The tree itself
was rather large but not all that impressive. Perhaps it looked better
at night with all the lights on.

The tree in the lobby of the Roosevelt Hotel. We stopped in quite a few hotel lobbies.
They are sooooooooooooo ornate and over the top fancy.

Had to take this. Where else would you find a wreath made of shoes!
And they were painted gold too.

Grand Central Station. I think 30th Street Station in Philadelphia is grander.

Eloise would have been proud of the tree at the Plaza Hotel.

Ice rink in Central Park with a nice view of the skyline
There were a ton of people under that roof waiting to skate
when the Zamboni was done.

The placard says "Will you Marry Me, I love you David."
It was not addressed to Paula however.
