Today was supposed to be the launch of the shuttle Discovery. This was the original reason for the trip. Seeing a shuttle launch was something on my bucket list. When they announced September 16 would be the last launch I called KT and made arrangements to visit and bought the plane tickets. And then NASA added another one (so this would not be the last one) and then cancelled this one. It would now take place on November 1st.
I was disappointed and it's likely we won't get to see one now but as far as this trip went it turned out for the best. Instead we visited the Kennedy Space Center. Something we would not have been able to do had there been a launch. We had an amazing day! The admission is not cheap but it was worth every penny and more. If you'd like to see the pictures click here.
Dave had never been there. The last time Kt and I were there was 1976. A lot has changed since 1976. I'm sure the shuttle program was being worked on then but it was not general public knowledge. In 1976 we were still in awe of the man on the moon stuff. Now, we were able to tour and see stuff about Man on the Moon and shuttle launches. I can't even begin to describe everything. I leanred a lot though and had an amazing day. I wish we had arrived earlier. As it was we spent a good 6 hours there and we weren't finished.
After the space center closed, KT took us to dinner at a place called Fishlips. The restaurant is on a pier near where the cruise ships take off. She and Jean go there often to wathc the ships come and go. They were all out already by the time we got there but it was a nice night to sit outside and enjoy a meal together.
