Baseball road trip

Dave decided to stick with the original plan which was to go to Tampa.

First, though KT and I went to Planet Fitness. We had a 45 minute workout and then home to clean up. We packed sandwhiches, drinks and snacks for the road and headed out. First stop was the Hilton at the Orlando Convention center to drop off Jean who was attending a three day staff retreat there.

KT decided to take secondary roads to Tampa - St. Pete area. This upset the GPS lady immensely. We eventually named her Gertrude Patience (last name still being considered). She was not happy about the route we took and tried desparately to get us to make about 100 legal u-turns. I'm wondering what she would have said about an illegal one!

As we got closer we decided to look for the Phillies spring training center in Clearwater. So KT programmed Jack Russell Stadium into the GPS. The GPS took us there and well it was disappointing. And it turns out there is good reason for that. The Phillies don't play there anymore. They play at Brighthouse Field now. Duh! So we headed there instead and it was much nicer and more what we expected. So enough messing around it was time to get to the baseball game.

Tampa Bay Rays play at Tropicana Field.. a domed stadium. There should be a law against this. Baseball (and football  for that matter) should not be played inside. It's just wrong. Just wrong. But we went anyway. Dave got his Tampa Bay hat.

This game turned out to be a very important one for both the Yankees and the Rays. The Rays were 1/2 game behond the Yankees so a win would put then 1/2 game ahead in first place. It was a good game..seesawing back and forth. There was controversy at one point about whether Derek Jeter was actually hit by a pitch. This fuss ended up on all the sports shows that night and it was in the paper again today. Interesting the stadium was not full and of those who did attend at least 25% of them were Yankees fans. The atmosphere where we were sitting was a bit testy. I wondered if we shouldn't leave early to avoid the fistfight that was sure to break out. It didn't and we did stay for the whole game. (of course)
