Quebec (day 3)

Today is Sunday (I think). It's so confusing when a) you are not home b) not on your usual routine and c) keep seeing people you work with all weekend!

Today I slept in! The alarm was set for 7 but I woke up a little before it. Does that ever happen to you? It happens to me all the time. It's like my brain is connected to the alarm clock... even foriegn ones! My first session was not until 9:00 so I allowed myself a little extra sleep and time to post day 2.

We had a general session first on the dos and donts of social media. Very interesting and I learned a lot not just for my day job but also for USAFit/Philly. (Hey nobody said I couldn't multi - task!). After that I went to a leadership session on focusing your mission and values. Sounds a little boring but it was actually pretty fascinating. The premise was the 80/20 rule (80% of the work is done by 20% of the people etc) and expanded on that. Basically 80% of our desired impact is decided by 20% of what we do. If you have ten things on your to do list 2 of them will produce 80% of the return on your investment of time. Things 3-7 only 17%; these things need to be done but somebody else should probably be doing them and things 8-10 shouldn't be on your list. I don't think it's going to shorten my lists any but it's good food for thought when you think about priorities.

Next was the legislative lunch. We heard from a former government official - I forget who and my booklet is across the room from where I sit (no wireless Internet here). The intersting thing about lunch was discovering that Dave was in the room and I had no idea. I left him in the hotel room in the morning. He was going to take the car and go for a drive around and we planned to meet up at 3:30 back at hotel room. Turns out he was back in the vicinity of the conference center at lunch time and figured he'd come in. Well he didnt' find me but he did see a bunch of the PA contingent and sat with them. Dave knows most of them by now having attended some of these things before and he's not shy so it all worked out!

After lunch I went to one more session (so-so) and then met up with Dave at our room. I changed into more comfortable shoes and jeans and we went for a walk around old Quebec. Again, you'll have to wait for the pictures. The precipitation had stopped, the sun even came out, but the wind was biting. So the key to this walk was to keep moving. We had a great walk and purchased a few souvenirs. I'll narrate the walk through the pictures later it'll make more sense (I hope). Note to self though - skip the Quebec Marathon... lots of hills!!! :) In many places there were steps to aid climbing the hills. I tripped up one set. Fell pretty hard on my right knee. I'm probably going to pay for that tomorrow. It was a real klutz moment. Just missed the step. I said (as I tried to stand up gracefully..LOL) that it was the high winds... the winds pushed me back so my foot missed the full step and caught the edge. My husband must love me because he said that made sense to him! We had a light dinner in St. Patricks Pub and then walked back to the hotel.

So an early night tonight. It's nice. Dave is watching hockey and I'm catching up with you all. Tomorrow will likely be a late night as it is "State Night" out. I guess in Canada it's State/
Province night out. So we will have dinner with the PA contingent courtesy of the Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS. It's a rather large group. It will be fun and long.

Thanks for reading!
