It’s January 7th. Happy Birthday, KT
We arrived last night. KT and JL picked us up at the airport after an uneventful flight. I was amazed at the number of families with children on the flight; shouldn’t they be in school now? Despite that it was not a noisy flight. I got a kick out of the baby across the aisle with the leopard footie pajamas and the little girl behind us who asked “Are we there yet?” in mid-air.
Interesting note – my voice which has been more or less AWOL for about a week now returned while in flight only to take a hike again today.
Dave sat at the window, I sat in the middle and another man sat on the aisle. He commented that he saw us at check in. I remembered him too because of his Eagles shirt. We chatted about the Eagles for a bit and their poor performances of late. The man told me (with a lot of pride in his voice) that he was going to Disney to see his daughter run the marathon. I told him I was running too. He said, “Oh but she is much older than you. She’s 52!” I smiled and let him know I was 50. I’m feeling pretty good now!
Today KT, Dave and I went to the expo to pick up my race packet. JL had to work today. We arrived at 11:30ish. The expo opens at noon. Already there was a long and – true to Disney – serpentine line. Once inside the Goofy runners were directed to the left (I had to think about that). At the entrance to the pick up room a lady stopped us and told KT and Dave they had to wait off to the side. She acted as if her life or at least her job depended on this. My race packet held two bibs, commemorative shoelaces and pin, a temporary tattoo (where am I going to put THAT) and some beads with a Goofy race emblem hanging off (not sure where I’ll wear that). From there we headed to the expo to pick up the goodie bag and shop.
I know I know.. I am not a shopper. But I saved money to get Disney race souvenirs and sometimes you can find gear at good prices at these things.
The goodie bag had three technical long sleeve t’s, two disposable cameras, cliff shots (which I don’t really like but I’ll give them away to somebody in the running group), and a bunch of flyers and stuff like that. Most of the flyer junk I’ll throw away but they did have a coupon for a free desert at the restaurant we are going to tonight so I’ll keep that. If we don’t use it I’ll leave it with KT and JL since it is a restaurant they go to. There was also a card for a free music download which I’ll leave with KT since I do not have an
Ipod.
At the expo I purchased a Goofy Challenge baseball hat. I am going to put all my race pins on it. I also purchased a wind/rain jacket (sleeveless) I’ve wanted one for running. I had hoped to get a Goofy or Disney one but they didn’t have any women’s. Brooks was having a sale so I got one at their booth.
I took a picture of this poor frog/toad (?) on the parking lot behind KT’s car at the expo. He has nothing to do with the goofy challenge except that maybe this is what I’ll look like when it’s over.

Re: Dead Frog
Please note that while this unfortunate being was found behind my car, it was evident that he had been deceased for quite some time and not as a result of my driving over him - recklessly or otherwise!
