Last year I ran my very first race ever at the Lansdowne 5k. So today was my first repeat race. The day started out humid. The weather channel at 7:00 a.m. told us it was 93%. Ugh! by the time the race started a lot of the humidity had burned off. It was still moist but not suffocating.
We headed to Lansdowne at 7:30 a.m. "We" included me, Dave, my sister Meg, our nephew Nathan, and Meg's friend Pete. Meg and Nathan were also participating in the event. Meg signed on as a walker. I signed on as a runner. I'm not sure what Nathan registered.

We arrived at the start line and milled around with other runners/walkers. Christine had pulled our bibs and t-shirts earlier so we did not have to wait in that line. I went for a warm up jog about 8:15. It helps me to get my heartrate up a little before the race starts. At 8:30 the race started.
My goals for this race:
#1) Finish
#2) Have fun
#3) Beat my time from last year (33:27). 33:26 would have been acceptable.
I know I'm writing this after the fact but you can check with various family members to find that these really were my goals before the race as well. :)
I finished, I had a ton of fun. And I took 3 minutes and 21 seconds off last year's time. I was flabbergasted (and breathless..lol). I question the length of the course as this puts me under a 10 min mile. However, regardless of that the course was the same as last year so I improved regardless. I'm VERY happy with that.
As I mentioned above, Meg entered as a walker. This was her first 5k event. She rocked! She won a medal at the end for the first female walker finisher! Congratulations Meg! :) We are very proud of her. Can you tell?

No race would be complete without the support team. Here they are enjoying a much earned reward compliments of Aunt Chris! From left to right; Dave, Pete, Chris and Erin!
This last picture is our tradition. Well it is now that we have done it two years in a row. Me and Erin at the end of the race. She got taller (much!) and I got older!
Happy Memorial Day everyone.
