The Somers Point Traffic Circle

This entry falls in to the "I'm going to have to write a letter about this..."

I really don't like traffic circles. I was very disappointed to see that a traffic circle was installed at the intersection (no more) of St. David's Road and Newtown Street Road where the new Episcopal Academy is being built. I mean, c'mon folks, this is the 21st Century!! Our forefathers fought for independence from England. I'm sure they didn't mean independence- and oh yeah we'll keep the traffic circles. (Even if some call them roundabouts in England). It was an all or nothing deal!

BUT ............. The traffic circle at Somers Point must stay. This significant spot where Route 52 heads in to Ocean City, marked the beginning of many summer vacations. How can they do this? Some things were meant forever. In a Inquirer article, the Mayor of Ocean City says tha people will actually look forward to going there. He means the causeway. Doesn't he know how many of us looked forward to it they way it was..... counted the days until we could see that circle again? It was the signal that you had to turn the A/C off and start sniffing for the salt air. And then who could spot the top of the Flanders Hotel?

*Sigh*.. the work is well underway. I will have to make sure I get down there once more before it's gone.

Some day soon I'll have to write about memories of Ocean City.
