I went last week to have the obligatory photo taken. There is a photo center in the Lincoln Court Shopping Center mere minutes from my work so it was easy to do during the day. For four years I've been carrying around an absolutely horrible DL photo. No, really, I know what you're thinking - a lot of people hate their DL photo but in this one I looked a lot like a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers... it was really a sight. So when the new one actually came out half decent I was thrilled. In fact, last night when I went shopping and the clerk asked for ID to match with my credit card I commented that I finally had ID I was not embarassed to show anyone.
So what do I get in the mail today? A possible DL recall. I kid you not. I received a letter from Penndot informing me that it has come to their attention that a batch of photo cards may not have a special security mark that can only be seen with ultra violet light. This security mark is used at airports and other places to check for authenticity. Furthermore, according to Penndot, a check of serial numbers indicates that my DL is in the bad batch.
I have to go back to the DL center where they will check it and IF the card is bad they will process a new one at no charge to me. (Well thanks a lot I say)... but now I may have to give up a decent photo ID and take my chances on getting another one. Are you kidding me?
The letter says if I don't exchange it, it will still be valid but I may encounter difficulty at places like the airport. Considering that I am flying 4 times in the next six months, I guess I have to go check this out.
I can't make this stuff up folks....
