Balloon Practice

Today was balloon practice for the 2009 6ABC Idea Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was also the day we would find out which balloon we would escort down the parkway. Or is it up the parkway? I'm not really sure but we head toward the Art Museum. This will be our third year. Our friends Bernadette and Mike signed up too and we all requested the same balloon.

It seemed a litte silly to go to practice again after having done it before. But actually it's nice to get the feel for the balloon again before the big day. This was the nicest practice day so far. The first one was very cold, the second very rainy. We practiced on Garfield and strangely enough that is also the balloon the four of us were assigned.

I have to admit some reliefe that we were assigned Garfield. The appointment letter listed the possible balloons and Elmo was among them. I remember from last year that Elmo is not a hot air balloon. He is a cold air ballon and sits on a cart that the handlers drag down the street. On the way to the Ikea parking lot in Conshohocken (the practice site) I was trying to talk myself into making the most of Elmo should we be assigned that one. I was trying to figure out how to make Elmo the best balloon in the parade. I'm glad I won't have to figure that out anymore.

Our instructions say the jumpsuits (one size does NOT fit all) will be orange and white and we will wear pilgrim hats. We are to arrive at the Crown Plaza at 6 am! I'm excited this is such a fun thing to do! If you want to read about the 2007 or 2008 parades click on the dates! :)

I love pilgrim hats. And I agree that one size almost NEVER fits all. Unfortunately the Maid of the Mist boats at Niagara Falls have not discovered this yet--they give the same size ponchos to everybody. :)

Hi Amy,

You are right. I didn't mind the Maid of the Mist poncho being too big though; being short it kept me drier than most. The jumpsuits for the parade though can cause me to trip so i have to roll them up and pin them up! LOL
