To be fair, I must preface this with the fact that I do not use a cellphone. We have one in the family but it is not mine. I am quite content to live my life without one. I have a phone at home and one at work. And that is enough for me.
I don't understand the need to be 'on' 24/7.
I've seen people on their cellphones while they are out walking, running and even riding their bikes. What could possibly be that important?
I've heard people on cellphones in a public restroom (not that it would be any more understandable in a private restroom but since I don't go into other people's bathroom with them I've never witnessed that). The restroom thing is really annoying. Sometimes it's hard to tell the person isn't talking to me. And don't they know that the person on the other end can hear the flush?
Cellphones in restaurants or movie theaters do not make sense to me either.
Today at my work a woman came into the office and asked for me. She needed to speak to me about something. I came out to see her and she answered her phone and continued a conversation for almost 10 minutes. That's just plain rude. She asked me to come out and speak to her and then made me wait while she carried on a conversation which did not even remotely appear to be an emergency.
What is with the need to be on call or in touch all the time? What could possibly be so important? Why do people thing THEY are so important? What is so vital that they can't leave the cell phone home while they take a walk or get some exercise? And why do people have to answer the phone when they are in the middle or or about to start a conversation with someone right in front of them? Haven't they heard of someting called voice mail?
There's more but I'll stop now.

I totally agree with most of it...however cell phones CAN be very handy. Whenever I go out somewhere alone I take a cell phone with me, just in case something happens. Plus it can also be helpful if you're meeting up with someone somewhere, and you need to call to say "Where are you???" :) However I applaud what you said about people's rudeness on the phone. Amen, and amen.
Thank you Amy. You make a very valid point. I guess personally, I just haven't felt the need to have one yet. Although with all the running I do, I'm starting to rethink own lack of cell phone.
