Day Three Wednesday Aug 26 into Seattle

I woke up on Wednesday morning at 4:30. The sky was gorgeous. No clouds and millions and millions of stars. They were everywhere! We were both awake so we showered and waited for breakfast which began at 5:30 this morning so that they could be completed by 7:00 and the crew would have time to clean up and be ready for arrival in Seattle.

We had breakfast with the a park ranger and a gentleman who also rode the train often. Unfortunately, they did nothing but complain. Wheneever Dave or I commented on something we really enjoyed they had an alternate negative story to tell. I finally gave up and ate my breakfast hoping to get away from them as soon as possible.

Now you may recall that the train splits in Spokane. This happened while we were sleeping. At the split the dining car stays with the Seattle train and the lounge car goes with the Portland train so those passengers can have something to eat in the morning. So there was no more lounge car. We spent the rest of the trip in our roomette. This is not a bad thing. Dennis had returned it to seating mode while we were at breakfast and with the big window we could see lots. Well until the tunnels that is. Shortly after breakfast we entered the Cascade Tunnel which is 17 miles long and takes approximately 12 minutes to travel through. Fortunatley the power was on so we could read our books/newspapers.

The rest of the trip was a mis of mountains and water. It was beautiful. We saw a Sea Otter in Puget Sound and lots of boats.

And after all the back and forth with the time we arrived in Seattle 30 minutes early!
