That was the expert advice of my doctor after my visit to him today.
Last night, out for my running workout, I had a slight accident. Yesterday was suposed to be a hill workout. I typically take a slow 1 mile jog to the hill as a warm up. Well I never made it to the hill. Running through the park at the end of my street I hit something.. I'm still not sure what and my right ankle gave way. I fell hard on my left side taking the brunt of the fall on my hand, shoulder and hip. My head hit the ground but not too hard. There is just slight tenderness there.
Last night it was all about the ankle which was swollen and very uncomfortable. I iced it and this morning when it really was not any better I made an appointment with the doctor. He said rest, ice, compression and elevation and ...as noted in the title...don't run until it's better. If the pain and swelling are not better in a week I'm to call him for an MRI. I've spent most of today on my couch icing it and keeping it elevated. I intend to go to work tomorrow. Dave will drive me. And then I'll have two days off to rest it some more. I think I'll be fine and I kind of knew that without going to the doctor but I figured better safe than sorry.
The ankle is feeling better although still achy and not really happy when I have to get up. The left side of my body though is starting to talk back now as the bruises and bumps are starting to speak loudly. I knew it was a hard fall because my teeth rattled but I was forgetting until my body decided to remind me. I won't give up running though. This is just a small set back; and a reminder that I am not indestructible and I don't bounce!
