Hostas

Last spring, my sister-in-law, Jill (Amy's mom) gave me some Hosta plants. Our side yard is very shady and I was having trouble getting anything to grow. Match that with my enormous brown thumb and I convinced that the side yard would always be bare. Jill assured me that these plants needed very little sunlight and would more-or-less grow on their own. She was right!

They have come back for the second year and look even more healthy than before! I am thrilled. I also managed to grow a little more grass on the side. Some day (hopefully in my tenancy here) the entire side yard will be grass covered. Hey! A girl can dream can't she?

Hosta might survive nuclear war. We had it at my old apartment and despite kids running through it, lack of water and general neglect, it came back bigger and better every year.

Glad to hear that the hosta are doing so well! In another year you could even split them and further embellish your yard.
Love,
