Countdown to Our Train Trip 2009

I imported this countdown clock from another website because I couldn't get any of the google gadgets to work. So it comes with advertising. Since it was free to me, I can't complain. Ok, I guess I just did, sort of, but I won't do it anymore. Anyway......
We are headed to the west coast and British Columbia this summer; ultimately to visit Carmen, Todd and the boys. To get there we will take the train from Philadelphia to Seattle, rent a car to drive to Kamploops, BC and return by airplane. Dave and I have been saving for this trip for over a year now. When we had enough saved for the train tickets in January, I booked it so that we would not be tempted to spend the money on some emergency. The tickets are refundable up to a certain point so if a real big emergency does come up we can still change our minds. We don't want to do that. :) Here's hoping that doesn't happen.
We will take the Pennsylvanian from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh (it starts in New York), then pick up the Capitol Limited (which starts in Washington DC) to Chicago. In Chicago we will get on the Empire Builder to take us to Seattle. The entire trip will take three days. We will have regular coach seats for the Philadelphia to Pittsburgh leg and a sleeper/roomette for the final two legs. More details on all of this later.
I'm a dork who loves to look things up and learn. The library (bricks and mortar or the Internet)was and still is one of my favorite places to go. My daughter, Emma, teases me about the trip my family took to Yellowstone in 1977 when I researched the places we'd drive through and vist and created 3*5 cards of miscellaneous information (ok, mindless trivia) to share along the way. Emma wasn't even there so either she got hold of the diary my father kept or one of my siblings ratted me out! Despite that, I accept my dorkness and - with pride -will do the same for this trip. I've already started and I'll post here from time to time about my findings, including links and library references were appropriate. If you'd care to follow along then come back and visit!
It took me over an hour to get that clock thing so I'm kind of blogged out right now. Watch this space for more information coming soon! Please feel free to comment or share information you may have as well!
Until next time....
