Well I played my bracket with my head. Not without some inner turmoil. I actually did fill out a bracket that put Villanova as the eventual winner over Texas. Then I changed it and put Villanova in the final four, losing to Tennessee, the eventual winner. This little voice inside my head kept saying “1985….1985…..” (See Mark’s exchange with me in the comments of the “12…..”).
I truly believed when I put the bracket together that if Nova could get past Clemson, they could beat Vanderbilt, Kansas and Georgetown to make it to the final four. Don’t know why I thought they could beat Vanderbilt – just a gut feeling. I guess there is head betting, heart betting and gut betting….LOL. As for Kansas, well I thought back to January 2005 at the Wachovia Center. Nova was the underdog then, Kansas was #2 in the country, and – although it’s two different teams – I figured they could pull it off again. As for Georgetown…. Nova can beat them. They have the advantage of knowing them, played them before and GT gets cocky; as they did with Davidson which is why Nova won’t get to play them now.
As everyone knows by now Nova did beat Clemson and earned a spot against Sienna in round 2. I was concerned about the Sienna game. Each time this year, when Nova had a huge come from behind victory as they did against Clemson they lost the next game. It is a jinx that worried me. I was thrilled to hear they won!
I saw the Clemson game from the Quality Inn in Enola on Friday night but we were on the road for the Sunday game against Sienna.
As for my bracket, except for Nova still being in it, it appeared to self destruct over the weekend. I still have all my final four teams in (Nova, Tennessee, Texas and UCLA) so there is some hope. Of course I’d gladly give up the winning to see ….. Never mind. I’m just superstitious enough.
There was a great article in today's Inquirer on Coach Wright.
