Villanova Basketball

I am not a fair weather fan, but I have to admit to wanting to keep a low profile after Wednesday's loss to Rutgers. This proved impossible however. I received messages and phone calls from many asking me to explain it. I could not. If misery loves company, we can take comfort in the fact that Rutgers went on to beat Pittsburgh last night (Saturday). And now we play at Pitt this week after continuing our losing streak in a game against Notre Dame yesterday. Wednesday's game will be a catfight for sure (Wildcats vs Panthers).

A friend suggested that the team start playing 10 minutes before game time (under the bleachers even) so that they will be ready to play to win when the game starts. This in reference to several come from behind wins this season. The most notable being the recovery from 21 points down to LSU in November. With 8 minutes to go, the team rallied to win by 2 in a Big East - SEC double header. (Providence lost by South Carolina in the first game that day). The fact is, though, we never should have been down that much to LSU in the first place.

Nova will most likely drop out of both (AP and ESPN) polls this week. And truthfully that may a blessing. While I'm sure Coach Wright doesn't allow them to consider the polls, it has to be a distraction. I say drop out, play your game and come together as a team. An NCAA bid is not out of the question just yet, but we should be playing to build this year not to the expectations of pollsters.

That's my opinion. Of course, as usual, nobody asked!
