A win but no hat.

On Thursday we visited the US Naval Academy. We walked the grounds and visited the chapel. We saw the crypt where John Paul Jones is buried. It's an interesting story how after being dead for over 100 years, Teddy Roosevelt orderd a search for his body and brought it back to be buried beneath the chapel at the academy. However, not interesting enough (in my mind) to take a picture of it. I was amazed at the number of people who took pictures of a coffin.

FYI - do not visit the Naval Academy if you do not like being called Maam. They can't help themselves!

We continued on our tour of Annapolis and in the late afternoon headed to the New Carrollton Metro station for the ride into Washington for the baseball game at RFK. The Nationals just happened to be playing the Phillies on Thursday but that wasn't a necessity in plannig the trip. I think there were more (or just as many) Phillies fans as Nationals fans at the ballpark. The Phillies won after falling behind early. I take full credit for the win as it was I who called the three run home run by Jayson Werth which brought the Phillies to within one, 6-5. The Marlins beat the Mets so we moved to 1.5 games out of first place.

Our seats were almost directly behind home plate. About the same spot where Dave saw his first Phillies game at Veterans Stadium. At that game - which we went to with my sister, brother in law and nephew - a foul ball hit the beer cup of the guy several seats down from us spraying everyone in the vicinity. We managed to stay dry this time.

Dave did not get his hat afterall. The Nationals will be moving to their new stadium next season. In fact, this series with the Phils was the last baseball series at RFK. They were out of hats in Dave's size and - judging from the comments around us - out of a lot of others as well. The concesssion franchise will be with a new vendor next year so they did not restock. Dave said it's ok though. He can order the hat online or buy it locally now that he has been to the stadium.
